THE HEART OF THE MATTER

The vast array of technological advancements has introduced new ways of story telling to us than ever before – words, pictures, videos, audio and engaging graphics. New times mean there is a demand for new forms of journalism, and for innovative and unconventional ideas and voices that not only inform, but also entertain and incite.

The fourth instalment of ‘Spectator’, IoBM’s prized presentation of the “Magazine Production Course” is, this time, a fusion of ideas stemming from 26 diverse minds – their opinions and perspectives aimed at transporting their readers to a milieu where they would get their daily dose of entertainment, meaningful story lines, and a lot more.

We live in an era of unprecedented technological and social transformation in all elements of the society. Yet, the human-centric stories are the ones that leave a lasting impact. Thus, as storytellers, we have tried to bring to our reader stories that are meaningful, and highlight certain important issues.

Thus, on the pages of Spectator 4.0 are stories that come from across cultures and social spectrums, and are beyond biases. On these pages you would find leftovers of dying cultures and sparks of new beginnings.

The photo essays and feature stories in front of you are products of weeks of hard work, intensive research, on-ground interviewing, detailed photography, and diligent editing.

Our instructor and mentor has skilfully poured her passion and love for magazine production in to us. With an emphasis on team work, she made sure that the 26 minds under her were aligned, yet breathing and thriving in their own space. What started off as just a college course, became a learning ground with several challenges and obstacles. But, like a phoenix, the team stood steadfast, successfully producing this magazine.

Like the previous editions, Spectator 4.0 has three teams – Editorial, Marketing and Design. All the teams were selected on the basis of merit and personal choices. While the tasks of each team varied immensely, they had one thing in common - undying passion. In spite of several hurdles and countless disagreements, none of the team members held back in contributing to the best of their abilities. Arguments and debates are the nucleus of creative ideas. Therefore, we, the students of the Magazine Production course, take pride in the stories we have pulled off.

The journey of Spectator 4.0 started off with brainstorming and idea generation, ending at edits, design fundamentals, and creating an identity.

Spectator 4.0 stands for freedom of expression. We believe that as journalism evolves, ideas should too. However, what stays with you till the end is individuality. Spectator 4.0 keeps that close with itself.

We are presenting to you an online magazine that we hope would prove to be an informative and engaging companion. We hope you enjoy reading it even more than how much we enjoyed producing it!

Happy Reading.
